What Would You Do About This
Sunday, June 11, 2006
Beloved of the Lord the letter below was sent to me via a reliable source of information about Israel because of the call they have as a watchman on the wall of Israel and I present it to you for such a time as this.
Thank you.

World Council of Churches blasts Israel
Condemns "appalling" state of Israeli-Palestinian affairs
Israel is responsible for the present crisis in the Middle East according to the World Council of Churches following its Executive Committee meetings in Geneva last week. Claiming that Israel's actions towards Palestinians "cannot be justified morally, legally or even politically," the organization insisted that Israel had failed "to comply with international law" and "pushed the situation on the ground to the point of no return."
In a bizarre contradiction the WCC condemned "both sides" for killing innocent civilians and simultaneously called on Palestinians to "maintain the existing one-party cease-fire toward Israel." Since January of 2005 at least 50 Israeli civilians and soldiers have been killed and over 350 injured as a result of shootings and suicide bombings carried out by Palestinian terror groups - many of which are directly linked to the past and present leadership of the Palestinian Authority.
The WCC also claimed that a double standard was at work in the international community that favored Israel, saying, "The side set to keep its unlawful gains is garnering support from part of the international community. The side that, despairing at those unlawful gains, used legitimate elections to choose new leaders (Hamas) is being isolated and punished."
Leaders from the US, EU, and Israel have all repeatedly expressed their desire not to "punish" the Palestinian people for electing Hamas to power in January, but rather isolate the Hamas leadership. Even at a considerable risk to it's own security, Israel has opened border crossings and provided humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
"Democracy must be protected where it is taking root," the WCC said, calling for a relaxation of American, British and EU sanctions against Hamas. Although the Hamas party was democratically elected, Israel is the only pluralist democracy in the Middle East, and regularly elects Israeli Arabs into government.
In March 2005, the WCC urged its member churches give "serious consideration" to pulling investments out of Israel and praised the 2004 decision by the Presbyterian Church of the United States to seek "phased selective divestment" from Israel.
